Cadets go 2-0 and knock off #12 team in Virginia (all divsions).... The Cadets were as close to full strength as possible once again this afternoon as they traveled to Woodberry Forest to take them on, as well as #12 team in the state according to the VAWA rankings, New Kent. Todays match was supposed to be a Super Quad but due to weather, Paul VI and St. Johns College High School were unable to make the trip. The Cadets wrestled New Kent first and knew they would be in for quite a battle. Daniel Redfearn got the Cadets on the board early with a first period pin and tie the score at 6-6 early. After a tough decision loss at 120, Freda stepped in for another pin followed by a Wyland Tech Fall, and then a Walker pin. DuPont added a valuable major decision at 152 before Thoma lost a 5-4 heartbreaker. With the match at 27-17 going into 170 it was still anyones match. The Cadets stepped up big time as Matt Brown and Harry Young both pulled upsets in dramatic fashion at 170 and 182 getting their victories in overtime. These two have been knocking on the door all season against some of the States best and I was so excited for them as I saw them push through and get the job done. Not only for themselves, but they added some huge team points in this dual today said an elated Coach Hall. After a Major Decision loss at 195, Jones grabbed a hard fought decision at 220, followed by a quick pin by Williams to seal the deal. Final score Benedictine 42 New Kent 21. In the other dual, Benedictine dominated Woodberry Forest winning 11 out of 14 bouts to cruise to a 60-12 victory. Wins for the Cadets were Craven, Redfearn, Biller, Freda, Wyland, Walker, DuPont, Thoma, Brown, Young, and Williams. Jones lost a tough 3-0 decision to one of the best in the VISAA and Walsh wrestled hard and dropped a very close 6-2 decision to the #1 ranked guy in the Prep State. Overall, a solid outing for the Cadets who now move to 12-3 on the dual portion of the season. Next up, the Cadets will travel to take on arguably the best public school in the central region Wednesday night, the Hanover Hawks. Also to note, Coach Hall garnered his 98th and 99th career dual wins this afternoon currently in his 6th year at the helm, and is just 1 away from the century mark. Great job Cadets and keep it up!
