Caerphilly Castle built by Gilbert de Clare 1268-1276, attacked by Llywelyn ap Grufydd, last real Prince of Wales in, 1269 1271. Gilbert broke Treaty and finished castle. Castle had little military history, but big siege in 1326 as part of the downfall of Edward III. Rumoured to have been attacked in 1403 during the rising of Owen Glyndwr. Castle was a ruin until the 1930s, when the Marquis of Bute restored it to give work to unemployed miners. Second biggest castle in Britain, first concentric castle, the precursor of Edward I`s castle`s in North Wales, those Magnificent badges of our subjugation as a Welsh historian wrote, even after 700 years the bitterness lingers on.
