Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc suspects that if Charley Grapewin - TopicsExpress

Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc suspects that if Charley Grapewin were still with us he would approve of what we are doing. Born in Xenia, Ohio, Charley went off to perform with PT Barnum’s Circus and later in vaudeville and early silent films. The story goes that he lost his retirement in the Great Depression so he went off to California to become a film actor to recoup his lost savings. That is genuine optimism. Charley took his passion and made it happen. His determination and perseverance, despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles, was rewarded with over 100 film roles. Most people do not know Charley Grapewin but have seen him. Two of his most notable roles were Uncle Henry in “The Wizard of Oz” and Grandpa Joad in “The Grapes of Wrath”. He worked with some of the most famous actors and directors of the golden era of Hollywood. That’s pretty good for a guy from Xenia. Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc is inspired by Charley Grapewin’s story as we work to restore the outdoor theatre tradition. Charley has never been recognized for his achievements by Xenia, Greene County, or Ohio that we know of. Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc needs to honor Charley someday so that he will not be forgotten and that his story can be an inspiration to all as it is to us. Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc is all about Ohio history. So please help us on our journey. Consider a small contribution to our power2give project by visiting our project link power2give.org/go/p/2900 .
