Cain slew Abel and Seth knew not why. How would different social philosophers explain this in no more than one short paragraph? Here are my suggestions... 1. Freud: Cain was driven by his primitive, animalistic instincts to wipe out the rival to his mothers breasts. Pass my cigar and no innuendoes. 2. Hobbes: Life is nasty, brutish and short. Abel had it coming. Get over it 3. Marx: Cain was a product of his economic and social conditioning and if Seth wants to know why he first needs to understand dialectical materialism and learn to show a certain louche disdain for Hegels airy-fairy, notions. Why didnt Seth show solidarity with Abel, and take out Cain? 4. Locke: With better property laws in place all this unnecessary unpleasantness could be so easily avoided between chaps of a certain decent breeding. 5. Sartre : At the ugly edge of the black and pointless abyss, we choose to do right and wrong as a personal act of self validation. Seth needs to get himself some cooler clothes and then his shortness in stature will no longer be an impediment to having beautiful lovers. I think therefor I am right. Cest la vie. 6. Kant: how do we know that Cain really killed Abel? We only have Seths belief that he killed him to go on and Seths perceptions are filtered through his... Um... but if I continue with this train of thought about how reality is subjectively perceived through a glass darkly, I will become slightly inexplicable even to myself... What did you think was your question? 7 Skinner: I can explain this to Seth very simply. Cain picked up a rock and the functionality of his arm enabled him to smash Abels skull to a bloody pulp. Pass me that rock and that rat and Ill demonstrate 8 Alan de Botton : How much is the fee and what channel is it going out on?
