Cairns Aerial Ambulance plane --Clive Jones on Horn Island Torres Strait in 1953, a couple of months before it ditched into the sea in darkness and heavy low cloud,eight miles off the coast east of Ingham. Pilot Dick Bampton and patient Jimmy Woods [15] drowned, while ambulance bearer Andy Cousar was miraculously plucked from the sea by a passing freighter 7 hours later. The plane was the third loss in the first five years of operation.
