Cajuns Ground Warhawks 21-2 To Complete Sweep In Monroe ragincajuns/news/2014/3/16/BB_0316141144.aspx?path=baseball Jeff Schneider, 3/16/2014 7:11:00 PM ____________________ ********************************************** MONROE, La. – The sixth-ranked Ragin Cajuns baseball team tied a school record with seven home runs as the squad crushed ULM 21-2 in the series finale to complete the sweep and win their seventh straight game Sunday at Warhawk Field. The win gives Louisiana (17-2, 3-0 SBC) its sixth straight series win and nine straight victories against the Warhawks (7-14, 0-3 SBC). The Cajuns posted a season-best 22 hits in the contest with eight of the nine starters posting two or more hits. ********************************************** Michael Strentz led the way going 5-for-5 with three home runs, five RBI and scored four runs. The five hits and three home runs each tie the school single-game records. Ryan Leonards also had a strong performance recording four hits in the game, while Caleb Adams had four RBI going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and scored twice. Adams extended his streak of reaching base safely to 13 games. Starter Cody Boutte picked up his second win of the season and 10th of his career holding ULM to one run on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Alex Dumaine fell to 1-3 after being run from the game in the second inning giving up seven runs on six hits in just one inning of work. The Ragin Cajuns exploded for six runs in the top of the first on five hits and a walk. Adams opened the scoring with a bases-loaded two-run double down the left field line. In the next at bat, Evan Powell drove in two more on a double down the right field line. Strentz closed out the scoring in the inning with a two-run home run to right to make the score 6-0. The second inning went much like the first with the Cajuns plating six runs again, this time coming on four home runs to go in front 12-0. Blake Trahan led off the inning with a solo shot to right center field to extend his hit streak to nine games. Later in the inning, Seth Harrison launched a two-run home run to right center. With two outs, Strentz notched his second home run of the day sending the first pitch he saw over the fence in left center to plate two more runs. Jace Conrad had the final home run of the inning with a solo homer to right center. The home run gives Conrad a team-best 20 RBI. In the bottom of the second, ULM got on the board on a Dalton Herrington RBI single up the middle to cut the lead to 12-1. Adams launched the sixth home run of the game to straight away center in the third to add two more runs to give Louisiana a 14-1 advantage. Louisiana scored three more runs in the top of the fourth highlighted by a solo home run by Strentz to grab a commanding 17-1 lead. The Cajuns scratched across four runs in the top of the fifth on a RBI single by Dylan Butler, a sec fly to center by Trahan and a two-run error by left fielder Jacob Stockton. The Warhawks capped the scoring in the contest in the bottom of the seventh when Herrington scored on a ground out by Anthony Herrera. The Cajuns return home to M.L. Tigue Moore Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m. as they host Nicholls State in the first of game games on the week. The two teams face off at Nicholls State on Wednesday before the Cajuns conference home opener on Friday at 6 p.m. against Georgia State. -- Ragin Cajuns --
