Calendar of events Upcoming The 22nd annual Powhatan Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 13 sponsored by Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School and May Memorial Baptist Church benefiting the Powhatan Christmas Mother is seeking vendors and participants. The Powhatan County Public Library will hold a Wreath Making Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Dec. 2 to make a wreath using fresh cut greenery, grapevines and other natural items. Krista Weatherford, Powhatan State Park educational interpreter, will demonstrate the techniques for designing a beautiful wreath. The cost is $15 and includes supplies. The Powhatan County Cooperative Extension office will hold an after school Cook Smart, Eat Smart cooking program for youth. The class, which has three sessions, will be held from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2, 9 and 16. Cost is $15. For more information, contact 804-598-5640. The Gamma Kappa chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority will host the 2014 Santa Breakfast from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Powhatan High School. Santa will be on hand for pictures and children and their families will enjoy a reindeer waffle breakfast. This is the 10th year of this community event. Proceeds raised are used to award a scholarship to a female Powhatan student interested in pursuing an education to join the teaching profession. The Fabulous Finds Flea Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the War Memorial Cultural Arts and Community Center, 2375 Skaggs Road. The Powhatan Christmas Tree Trail 5K and 10K will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Powhatan High School. Registration is $20 in advance for the 5K and $30 for the 10K. The 2015 MLK Youth Day Community Breakfast is Jan. 19. Organziers are seeking youth to participate in the Community Youth Choir that will sing that morning of the breakfast.
