Calgary Yacht Club – Endurance Race - Aug 9, 2014CYC is hosting an Endurance Race on Saturday. We are looking for six teams of adventurers to participate in a fun, informal event. If you are GSC, or Newell, get a crew together and join the challenge. Teams are made up of four people, who race a laser and a 420 for six hours. See information below and contact me to register or answer questions. Beyond that, if you want to volunteer, let me know as well. CYC provides the 420s... Information/ Registration Email: [email protected] Phone:403-560-7001 Purpose – To create an event where competitors race and socialize through the event and allow members to mix into teams of variable abilities/ages and support integration of the membership. In addition, to allow friend and extended families to be able to support the event with racing set very close to the club. The race for 2014 will be six hours long. In future years, we may extend. Rules-Racing Rules of Sailing will apply, more or less. Decision of the Race Committee will be final. Protests to be heard at midnight, in the middle of the lake. No boats allowed. The Event. – The event will be run for teams of 4. For 2014, max 6 teams. Each team will be required to race one laser and one 420 continuously for six hours. Briefing 10:00, Boat allocation 11:00 boat set up and practice race start 12:00 finish 18:00 Course – The course will set up adjacent to the club and will have short legs of of approximately 400 meters allow for all of the action to be viewed from the yacht club lawn. The pit area for changing crews or repairing boats will be between the two pontoons. The start area will be from the North pontoon and this will be the base for the race officer and lap counter. A simple triangular course will be used. A race official will be based in the pit area and the teams and crew changes will be monitored to ensure every team member completes at least 60 minutes sailing in each type of boat. Please note that youll need to register as a team (i.e. we have set it up so that there is only one registration necessary - thinking this is more convenient for everybody). Our PRO has been excellent - so you can count on all the support you need to run the Races.
