Californias cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions - a key element of the states landmark climate change law (AB 32) - is under attack by the oil industry, with predictably misleading ads and an astro-turf campaign. The industry wants to exempt fuel from the law, which would eviscerate it given that fuel accounts for 40% of emissions. Cap-and-trade will help us move toward cleaner energy and reduce carbon emissions in our state. It will also generate significant funds for transportation investment. We should resist the oil industrys effort to gut it.
