Call for Application: Journalism Workshop „Journalism Under a New Democracy“ for Journalists from Myanmar (in November 2013, Berlin, Germany) Deadline for application: 15 July 2013 In cooperation with the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation and the German Federal Foreign Office, the taz-Panter-foundation is planning to invite ten journalists from Myanmar to participate in a workshop in Berlin in November 2013. Under the theme of „Journalism Under a New Democracy“ the participants will not only speak with journalists of „die tageszeitung“, but also meet politicians of various German parties and various public figures in Berlin. The participants will also visit the Foreign Ministry, the Bundestag (Parliament), the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation, as well as cultural and political exhibitions currently shown in the German capital. In seminars they will hear about the situation of German media today and learn about the experience of "die tageszeitung" as a newspaper based on a cooperative model. Other topics will be online-journalism, journalism and ethics, journalism and corruption. We expect participants to give a talk about the political situation in Myanmar and write their own articles about Myanmar, which will be published in „die tageszeitung“. Anyone interested in participating should send an application-email to [email protected] and/or [email protected] and in addition to boell.yangon@gmail The application should be written in English. It should include a CV and the reason why you want to participate. Please also send us at least one example of the work you have published. We are open for print-, online, radio- and tv-journalists. Expenses including flight and hotel are paid by the organizers of the workshop. We expect applicants to have: +valid travel-documents which enable them to apply for a German visa; +a very good command of spoken and written English +at least one year working experience as a journalist We prefer journalists who are actively involved in social and/or political work. We will invite candidates to a personal discussion in Yangon at the office of the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation in July. The taz-Panter-foundation is an organization closely linked to „die tageszeitung“, an independent daily newspaper published in Germany, founded in 1979 as an alternative to established conservative newspapers. The foundation focuses on the training of journalists. For some years now it has organized - among others - workshops for East-European journalists in Berlin. The Heinrich-Böll-Foundation (hbf) is a publicly funded institute that is closely affiliated with the German party Bündnis 90/Die Grünen. From its headquarters in Berlin and 29 overseas offices, hbf promotes green ideas and projects in Germany and worldwide. The foundation’s work in Asia concentrates on promoting civil society, democratic structures, social participation for all women and men, and global justice. Together with its partners, hbf works toward conflict prevention, peaceful dispute resolution, and search for solutions in the fight against environmental degradation and the depletion of global resources.
