Call for Art Peninsula Art League 2014 Open Juried Art Show September 27 – November 15 The Peninsula Art League is pleased to announce its 12th Annual Open Juried Art Show. This year the show will again be held at the beautiful Harbor History Museum harborhistorymuseum.org. This impressive state-of-the-art structure on the waterfront in downtown Gig Harbor has a large dedicated gallery and elegant common space. Each year, artists from across the nation and Canada submit over 300 entries to the show. This venue provides ample space to show over 100 works of art. Twenty-one prizes were awarded to entrants in the 2013 Open Show, totaling nearly $6,000. Gig Harbor, Washington, historically a small fishing village, is now home to many pleasure boats yet continues to host a working fishing fleet today. Its waterfront location on the Puget Sound attracts many visitors who enjoy walking along the waterfront with attractive views, friendly people, small and unique shops, restaurants and numerous art galleries. This area has become known for our active and supportive community of artists. Juror, Carla O’Connor Our juror, Carla O’Connor of Gig Harbor, is an internationally-known artist and author. With a formal art education, and as a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Northwest Watercolor Society, and an AWS Dolphin Fellow, Carla is equipped to view individual creations through the discerning lens of a practicing artist. We are especially privileged to have her expertise this year. Carla OConnor received her BFA in painting from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. She is an honorary member of the Jiangsu Watercolor Research Institute of Nanjing, China, and her numerous awards include the Silver Medal from the American Watercolor Society. Carla teaches many workshops each year across the United States and Canada. She has taught in Prague, Czech Republic and Lucca, Italy. Her schedule can be found at carlaoconnor. Her artwork and articles have been featured in many art magazines and books, including International Artist Magazine, Watercolor Magazine, and she is the author of a DVD “The Process – Figure and Design in Gouache”. Carla will also present a five-day water media workshop at the Harbor History Museum August 18-22, prior to the show opening.
