Call for Contributions: Gender, Law, and Social Change in North Africa The Hillary Rodham Clinton Center for Women’s Empowerment (HCC) at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (Morocco), in collaboration with the Middle East Center at St Anthony’s College at Oxford University (UK), will host a workshop in English on the theme: Gender, Law, and Social Change in North Africa March 25-27, 2015 The workshop will bring together senior international and local scholars as well as emerging scholars (Ph.D.s within the past three years and “doctorands”) who work on the themes of the conference. We are seeking contributions that speak to historical or contemporary aspects of gender, law, and social change in North Africa with a goal of selecting papers for an edited volume. In addition to preparing the book, the workshop also intends to develop a network for scholars working in the field as well as to help foster a mentoring relationship between established and emerging scholars. The language of the workshop and papers is English so as to enhance English-language scholarship on the Maghreb by North African and international scholars. The focus of the HCC is applied research. The organizers are, therefore, particularly - but not exclusively - interested in scholarship serving to promote effective policy-oriented research and enriching the work of local, women-focused NGO’s. Additional information will be available on the HCC website: aui.ma/en/hcc Deadline for 400-word abstracts: December 1, 2014. Submissions should be sent to: [email protected]. Please place in the subject line “Gender, Law, and Social Change Workshop.” The workshop will take place March 25-27, 2015 on the campus of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco. For North African and European scholars transportation as well as room and board will be provided. For scholars from the U.S., partial travel stipends are available.
