Call for Papers (Special Issue) BioMed Research International (Formerly titled Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology) “Current Biotechnological Advancements on SustainableMetal and Nutrient Removal” The prevalence of various pollutants like nitrogenous, sulphur, phosphorous compounds and heavy metals in natural ecosystems has seriously threatened the sustainability of natural ecosystems and are thus interfering with the natural biogeochemical cycling. Chemical pollution of water bodies can cause huge damage to our environment because many of these pollutants are highly poisonous and can in the worst case scenario wipe out entire aquatic ecosystems. The world still hasn’t come up with the adequate monitoring system despite the fact that the global chemical pollution continues to grow because of the many "new" pollutants which have entered use in recent years. Thelong lasting effects of these pollutants are too varied, diverse and no more a mystery now. Although nature often has great ability to recover from environmental damage, the growing demands on water resources necessitate the professional application of fundamental knowledge about the water cycle to ensure the maintenance of quality and quantity. In view of broad interest in biological methods of wastewater treatment, the current special issue will cover following potential topics, but not limited to: 1. Plant/animal/human responses to chemical pollutants and toxic effects of pollutants on living organisms 2. Reactor Design for metal and nutrient removal 3. Microbial Characteristics of Biomass Used 4. Process design and Control 5. Biometallurgy 6. Bioremediation 7. Implementation of new technologies in a WWTP for energy saving and nutrients recovery BioMed Research International is a peer-reviewed having an impact factor of 2.436, open access journal that publishes original research articles as well as review articles in several areas of life sciences. Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at hindawi/journals/bmri/guidelines/.
