Call me Mr Suspicious, but Im still struggling with why, - TopicsExpress

Call me Mr Suspicious, but Im still struggling with why, completely out of the blue, and without any consultation that I can recall, our Prime Minister seems to have unilaterally decided to spend $80M (at least!) of taxpayers money on new bank notes, that nobody has even asked for. Then it struck me...is this just another feathering the nest exercise for John and his chums before he buggers off to Hawaii for good? Id like to know what checks and balances are in place to ensure that there is no ulterior motive, and more importantly, that there is very close scrutiny of a number of factors, namely:- 1) How come a Canadian company won the contract to produce the new notes - Im assuming its something to do with the high tech anti-forgery features of the new notes, but Id like to know that a fair and diligent tender process has taken place. 2) As the new notes are put out in to circulation, what system is in place to ensure that the same quantity of old notes are destroyed? 3) Exactly who is it that has responsibility and accountability for this, to ensure that the odd hundreds of millions of old bank notes dont accidentally end up in someones back pocket by mistake? Which independent body monitors this? 4) How do we know that this exercise isnt just a case of the govt literally printing more money as we know is the case in the good old US of A ? I might be accused of paranoia, but given this governments propensity for twisting the truth, and covering up corruption, I for one, as a tax payer and citizen of this country, want to know that someone is looking after our interests, and has asked these important questions BEFORE we find out something is amiss ! Perhaps these are questions that our new Leader of the Opposition could ask the PM, just for our peace of mind !
