Call our band Americana. Call it 1920s metal. Call it music to monkey to, but please, dont call us a gypsy band. A gypsy (a more appropriate term is Rom) is a member on an ethnic group of traditionally traveling people. But, its not a nice term. Literally translated, it means untouchables. I get that the idea of gypsy, especially when contrasted with our lifestyle, seems to be an appropriate term to describe what we do. It simply isnt. And we reject that label, as we have since the beginning. Its an antiquated and misunderstood word, and its use is a sort of cultural appropriation to me. Romani music has a long an beautiful history, and we dont know how to play it. I love and respect it enough to not accessorize it. End rant, thanks yall.
