Call the Republicans’ actions treason in a very real sense, because the consequences of default for our economic security are material and palpable, and can extend to our military security as well. Wrecking our credit rating will be devastating to the economy and to the well being of thousands if not millions of citizens. Today’s Republicans should seriously consider what is meant by the old expression “cut off your nose to spite your face.” They are mastering that right now like never before in their hysteria. Let me repeat that: hysteria. That is precisely what this is.
