Called PCI (where I go for my chemo) today and told them about the bruising, Im going to go in to run labs and get my blood count to make sure we dont have to worry about this bruising I am having. That makes me feel better, I am being such a worrier this time around! When I am scared, I do research. It is too ingrained in my blood after 6 years of college. I cannot just listen to a doctor, I have to do some research and confirm what I am told. It makes me feel informed and in control. However, sometimes I read things I dont want to - for example, ran across this in an article from cancer.org: SCT is very expensive (often costing well over $100,000) and often requires a long hospital stay. Autologous transplant is considered a standard treatment for lymphoma under certain conditions, so most medical insurance will cover the cost. Even if the transplant is covered by your insurance, your co-pays or other costs could easily amount to tens of thousands of dollars. Find out what your insurer will cover before deciding on a transplant so you will have an idea of what you might have to pay. Thank goodness it is covered by insurance, first of all. Second, I definitely had not heard anything about out of pocket costs being so high during my initial visit at the University of Iowa, so I am going to call tomorrow and make sure that I can at least understand what the out of pocket costs associated will be. It gave me a mini heart attack. I did call U of I today to ask about fertility options and explained how important having children is to me, my nurse is doing some research and going to call me back. In the mean time, I will continue to read up on things on the internet.
