Calling All ‘Makers’: Nashville Mini Maker Faire Wants You! Tech enthusiasts, hobbyists, tinkerers and crafters are needed for 2nd Annual Nashville Mini Maker Faire NASHVILLE, July 9, 2014—Are you a tinkerer, crafter, instrument maker or master builder? It’s time to show off your work at the 2nd Annual Nashville Mini Maker Faire at Adventure Science Center on Sept. 13! Organizers are seeking groups or individual “makers” of all ages, skills and interests to exhibit for free at the event. Information and online registration is available at nashvillemakerfaire/makers. The Faire features makers who are passionate about their craft and enthusiastic about sharing their expertise with others. Many makers develop hands-on activities, while others provide demonstrations and instruction on how they create their work. Nashville Mini Maker Faire is an annual gathering of local and regional makers who showcase their do-it-yourself (DIY) projects and innovations in an expansive outdoor exhibition. From costuming to creative knitting, robot-building to car and cycle modding, the Faire assembles a cross section of interests with the common theme of science and creativity. The event is outdoors, rain-or-shine, free and open to the public. Crafters’ Challenge Faire organizers also are encouraging local artisans to participate in a Crafters’ Challenge that will be judged on Sept. 13. The theme is “cycle,” which can be interpreted in many different ways: recycle, bicycle, water cycle, baseball cycle, etc. Participants can put their vision of “cycle” into a crafted piece such as sculptures, paintings, quilts, wearables, designs, or something completely new and different! To enter the Challenge, crafters must register at nashvillemakerfaire/blog. In a movement sweeping across the country, makers have brought more visibility to the DIY mindset that often takes place only in shops, garages and on kitchen tables. Mini Maker Faires enable these diverse projects and ideas to emerge into public view. The 2014 Nashville Mini Maker Faire is presented by Adventure Science Center, MakeNashville and NashMicro, under license from Maker Media, Inc. Sponsored by UPS, Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp., NovaCopy, Metro Nashville Arts Commission and more. It will include vendors, instructional workshops, panelists and performers from around the region from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
