Calling Marty McFly, calling Marty McFly! Ethernet Alliance Chairman John DAmbrosia of Dell goes back to the future with 25GbE: ubm.io/1m1mARm In his latest EE Times blog post, John digs into the recent past and the future of 25GbE, including a look at Ethernets roadmap. He notes that in 2007, the IEEE 802.3 Higher Speed Study Group was busy contemplating the next speed beyond 10 Gigabit Ethernet. The group realized bandwidth requirements of networking and computing applications were growing at different paces - bandwidth requirements of networking applications were doubling every 18 months but bandwidth capabilities of computing applications were doubling approximately every 24 months. John further reports Ethernets roadmap has evolved with the IEEE 802.3 Working Groups approval of the formation of the 25GbE Study Group, which will focus on 25GbE over a single lane for server interconnects. He also clarifies some misconceptions around recent debates over 25GbE, including how and why the 25GbE Study Group was formed. If youre interested in whats happening with 25GbE, Johns EE Times article is an excellent deep-dive and is worth a read. Check out 25G Ethernet Looks Back to Future now at: ubm.io/1m1mARm
