Calling all lovers of food and drink ... you are invited to join a new Gourmet Club! The inaugural event – a five course dinner with matched wines – is being staged this Thursday (15th May). It will be followed by a Laurent Perrier Champagne Dinner on the summer solstice, Saturday 21st June, as well as a fund-raising event to be held at Hamilton Grand in September. Gordon Shaw, manager of the resort’s Road Hole Bar and a ward-winning Road Hole Restaurant, says: The resort is known world-wide as the destination for golfers. Over recent years, it has won a growing reputation for delivering fabulous food and drink experiences. Working with our Executive Chef, Martin Hollis, we are keen to bring this to the fore and provide a Club that will showcase what Martin and his team deliver for the benefit of those who love the very best food and drink.” The first dinner will see a five course menu matched with wines from Germany’s Kesseler estate – including their Riesling 2012, Lorcher Schlossberg 2010, Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck 2010 and Pinot Noir 2010 and a Cuvee Max 2010. Gordon explains: “We work hand-in-hand with vineyard owners to choose our wines – and this dinner will be a great example for us to demonstrate that close working relationship.” Founded in 1924 by Joseph Kesseler, his grandson, August, continues the work today. He has worked in the wine industry in France, Italy and the United States and oversees 50 acres of vineyards, with some vines over 70 years in age. August Kesseler says: “Im delighted that our wines will be included in the inaugural event. The Old Course Hotel is such a fantastic draw – and I know many golfers in my country love to visit St Andrews and play in the Home of Golf. It is an honour to be involved in this way. Exec Chef, Martin Hollis, has significantly broadened the hotel’s dining appeal since his arrival in 2012, not only through taking the chefs out to events in the region – from cookery demonstrations at the local Farmers Market and festivals to working more closely with schools and colleges to explain the benefits of a career in hospitality – but also through the development of a popular 3 course £18.50 lunch in the 3 AA rosette-awarded Road Hole Restaurant and the launch of Hams Hame, the resort’s latest pub and grill dining offer that opened last summer beneath the dome of Hamilton Grand. Martin adds: “We have a strong and loyal customer base of foodies at a local and regional level. Our Club will be available to all guests staying at the resort, but we want to provide a series of events for those who live and work close by – to demonstrate our passion for food, to showcase the very finest of Scottish ingredients – and to involve our customers in a way never before delivered at the resort. David Scott, Director of Operations at the resort, is “absolutely delighted” with the move, saying: “Gordon’s plan to develop a Club is built on the success of recent tasting events that we have staged – for Afternoon Teas, Gin & Cocktail Masterclasses, as well as Wine, Whisky and Cognac tastings.” David adds: “These have proved there’s a growing appetite for food and drink events at the resort – not only for our guests but also for those who are either within an easy drive of St Andrews or for whom an overnight stay is a little added luxury that they very much deserve! Places at the May 15th dinner are limited. Priced at £65 per person for the dinner, wines and tea or coffee, they can be booked in person at the hotel, by calling the reservations team on 01334 474371 or emailing [email protected] A special Gourmet Club accommodation rate of £275 per room is being provided (subject to availability).
