Callington signaled their intention to compete for honours this season as they crushed fellow trophy hunters Helston in the winter sun at The marsh. Luke Avis-Riordhan fired the home side into a fifth minute lead and this was doubled four minutes later as Michael Lucas fired home the spot kick after Dennis Masons mazy run from the left was abruptly ended by a stray boot from an Athletic defender in the area. Helston pulled a goal back on 21 minutes through Jamie Thirkle but their thoughts of a comeback were short-lived as Mason gained reward for his pulsating first half display with a goal for himself to restore the two goal advantage at the break. Callington continued to dominate after the re-start and on 50 minutes the returning Ryan Lucassi proved too pacy for the Helston left back and crossed for Sam Stevens to shoot home from close range to stretch the lead, and he added a second just after the hour to complete the rout and send the Marshmen into next weeks Senior Cup clash at home to Penryn Athletic.
