Callout 44: Spink Boardwalk – July 30th at 14:45 On Wednesday, July 30th at approximately 14.45hrs both the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by the HSE in response to an incident involving a man who had taken a fall on the Spink Boardwalk near Glendalough in Wicklow. Apparently the man, a Dutch national, had been walking this popular route when he fell awkwardly as he stepped aside to let other walkers pass. His effort to be nice resulted in a lower leg injury and various bruises and lacerations including one to his head. Members of the HSE and Mountain Rescue made their way to the scene and started to administer first aid. The Coastguard helicopter Rescue 116 was available and also responded and got the winch-man down to assist shortly after 4pm. The helicopter also lowered a stretcher to help with the evacuation. Initial treatment was administered and the unlucky walker was packaged in the stretcher before Rescue 116 could perform a lift after which he was flown to hospital for further treatment. Mountain Rescue would like to thank all agencies involved which include the Irish Coast Guard, the HSE Ambulance Service, An Garda Siochana and the National Park & Wildlife Service staff.
