Calls have been made for Northampton Borough Council to re-open - TopicsExpress

Calls have been made for Northampton Borough Council to re-open toilets in the town’s most popular parks. Currently Abington Park is the only park in Northampton to have public toilets, with visitors to all the other green spaces in the town having to instead dash to nearby shops or cafes if nature calls. One woman, in her 60s, contacted the Chronicle & Echo this week to tell how she had to go to the toilet behind a bush after being caught short while enjoying the sun in Becket’s Park last weekend. The town park currently has no toilets at all, with the nearest being at Morrisons supermarket, in Victoria Promenade. Toilets in Midsummer Meadow have been closed for a number of years. Indeed council officers have confirmed there are now no toilets inside the empty block. However, with families heading to parks to enjoy the sunny weather, fresh calls have been made for toilet facilities to be provided. Max Lang, from the Northampton Open Spaces Network, said: “Abington Park is the only park to have toilets, but when we approach the borough council about it it is always about money or anti-social behaviour. “We would like to see a toilet in all the major parks. I know there can be anti-social issues with them, but there is no reason why they can’t be open during daylight hours.” Plans have been revealed to put toilets in The Racecourse Pavilion. 9/07/2012
