Calvarys Stream is Flowing, the Song and the Story. Composer Eliza E. Hewitt Writes Calvarys Stream is Flowing. Eliza E. Hewitt (1851-1920) was a school teacher for many years, until an accident injured her spine and left her a partial invalid. Unable to continue with her first career choice, she decided to try her hand at hymn writing. She successfully wrote the lyrics for more than 75 songs. Several of her songs are still sung from hymnals today, such as Sunshine in My Soul, When We all get to Heaven , and Calvarys Stream is Flowing . Although Hewitt did write the music for some of her lyrics, most of the music was written by various other composers. William J. Kirkpatrick (1838-1921), well-known author, teacher and musician, and composer of Lord Im Coming Home (See: Lord Im Coming Home, the Story), composed the music for Hewitts Calvarys Stream is Flowing . Calvarys Stream is Flowing 1. From that dear cross where Jesus died, Calvarys stream is flowing; From bleeding hands and feet and side, Calvarys stream is flowing. Refrain: Calvarys stream is flowing, Calvarys stream is flowing; Flowing so free for you and for me Calvarys stream is flowing. 2. Come, wash the stain of sin away, CCalvarys stream is flowing; Come, while tis called salvations day, Calvarys stream is flowing. Refrain 3. For every contrite, wounded soul, Calvarys stream is flowing; Step in just now, and be made whole, Calvarys stream is flowing. Refrain 4. For every weary, aching heart, Calvarys stream is flowing; A tender healing to impart, Calvarys stream is flowing. Refrain 5. With life and peace upon its tide, Calvarys stream is flowing; Sweet blessings down the ages glide, Calvarys stream is flowing. Refrain “ He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” (I Peter 2:24) Written by: Connie Ruth Christiansen
