Calvin Cheng : Make it clear if NMP applicant can be political party member. Chengs smoke and mirrors over the NMP scheme. NMPs are independent, not being under any party whip, Really do we care whether you resigned on the 6th of July or 7th of July? Does that even matter? Wake up people! NMP and political Party dont belong in the same sentence. NMPs dont belong in your parliament. Why? Because you didnt vote for them. Not only did you not vote for as in walkovers or weak members sliding in under the coat tails in huge GRCs, but they didnt even stand for any election. Have you heard of Communism? Communist regimes have elections just like Democracies but the candidates are selected. They have Selection not Election. Thats what Nominated means in NMP. Nominated to be selected by a pro-PAP committee. The NMP scheme was an effort to fool the people into thinking they didnt need alternative MPs in Parliament because we had a wide range of voices. Thats what backbenchers are for. We shouldnt be fooled anymore. Calvin is trying to hoodwink you that NMPs in some way resemble Independent MPs or have anything to do with a Party whip. But an Independent would have stood for election. S/He would have earned their right to be in Parliament. NMPs are at best special interest lobbyists and those special interest these days are protecting the PAP voice in parliament. If these people wish to be in our house of elected representatives (well mostly elected) but free of a Party whip then let them stand for election on their own two feet. Cheng, who these days seems like a one man anti-WP machine, got caught out as a YPAP member but as he says himself, theyre all partisan in their hearts. He just happened to be a card carrying member.
