Cambodian U16 Girls Team participate in 2015 Asian Football Confederation U16 Woman’s cup: ISF was thrilled to send 4 girls to the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC)’s football trials, conducted on September the 15thto select players to join the national team. The trial was open to all players from across the country, but in the end, just 21 made it onto the team, 2 of whom were ISF girls Song Channa & Seng Vicheka! We were also very proud that Leng Chanthy, one of our coaches, was selected as an assistant coach to the Cambodian U16 Girls National team. After the team was formed, a football camp was held from September 16 to October 2 at the FFC. It was an intensive period of football training. Then on October the 3rd, they all flew to Malaysia for the international tournament. There were 8 teams participating in the tournament, which were divided into 2 groups. Group A had Cambodia, Taiwan, Myanmar and Philippines while Group B had Vietnam, South Korea, Australlia and Hong Kong. The first game for the Cambodian team was against Taiwan on October 5. Among all the players, Song Channa was seen as particularly outstanding. Despite their efforts, the team was defeated 0-7. On the 7th they were beaten by Myanmar 0-4 and on the 9th they played the Philippines and lost 2-4. On the days which were not the match days, the team trained and in the evenings they went out to explore the new country and enjoy themselves. Since the Cambodian team could not go to semifinals after losing the round robin, they flew back to their home country on October the 10th, 2014, inspired by the competition and ready to get back into training. It was a wonderful experience and opportunity for Song Channa and Seng Vicheka and ISF is incredibly proud of the two players and our coach, Leng Chanthy. Yin Samedy, Football Programme Manager.
