Came across footage today of a post war - Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein - who was the commander of the Eighth Army in North Africa. He helped turn the tide against Rommel through his strategy of focused, detailed and well orchestrated use of Army, Navy and the Air Force resources. A story circulated that, upon the appointment, it caused Montgomery to remark that After having an easy war, things have now got much more difficult. A colleague is supposed to have told him to cheer up – at which point Montgomery said Im not talking about me, Im talking about Rommel! His comments show his personality of leadership, determination and conviction.
