Came across this poem I wrote re: a particularly bad relationship. My, how things have changed. today today I don’t want to hold my head up and smile and pretend that all these arrows flying in from all directions aren’t piercing me, all the way through. today I don’t want to pretend that I don’t feel every sigh, every muted conversation, every eye roll—heated sword tips pressed to tender flesh today today I will walk up to the gilded bars in the cage you’ve built for me, bound up in the pretty lies, which I should be immune to by now today I will do more than fiddle with the lock when you aren’t looking (because you’re never looking). today I will smash things against the doors, and watch them tremble, because I see their weaknesses. I see your weaknesses. they’re everywhere, and everything, anything you’ve boxed me in with is a weapon. and now that I understand that, I will use them. you think your silence will break me? think again, because i’m used to your silence. but you are not used to mine.
