Cammy Can Kick On WRITTEN BY ANDREW DICKSON Cammy Can Kick On ALLY McCOIST sees no reason why Cammy Bell can’t push back into the Scotland squad after manager Gordon Strachan selected Lee Wallace recently. Bell has made one appearance for his country – against the Faroe Islands in November 2010 – and been in a number of other squads. Asked about potential call-ups in the future when he met broadcast media today, the former Kilmarnock player was enthusiastic about the challenge of breaking into the group again. And McCoist thinks he’s someone Strachan would be open to considering after he gave Wallace his eighth cap as a substitute against Macedonia in Skopje last month. The national coach is clearly of the opinion he will choose players to play for him if he feels they’re good enough, irrespective of what level of football they’re playing at. McCoist said: “Cammy has been terrific since he came in during the summer. He has been a terrific signing. “He’s in really, really good shape and I think he’s enjoying it, which obviously helps. He’s very confident too. “The one thing about Gordon and the national team is that he’s picked Lee in his squads and played him in the away fixture in Macedonia. “It certainly wouldn’t be a major surprise to me if Cammy fought his way back in to the international squad, far from it.” Bell admittedly hasn’t been tested too often since he came into the team and he was relatively untroubled by East Fife at the weekend. But McCoist feels the fact he’s keeping clean sheets says a lot about the way he’s reacting on the occasions he is called into action. He added: “You could argue his concentration levels will probably have to be greater than they’ve ever been. “Jim (Stewart) sees Cammy first-hand both in games and in training every day and he works with the national team’s goalkeepers. “There’s nobody better to tell Gordon how Cammy is doing and that would certainly be a positive thing for him.” watp....shiz
