Starting Saturday, the OPP across the province will watch for unfocused drivers during their Distracted Driving Campaign. OPP Constable Jamie Stanley says 182 fines were issued for distracted driving in 2012 -- and that number jumped to 281 in 2013. Stanley tells Bayshore Broadcasting News anything that takes your focus off the task of driving constitutes distracted driving. He warns cell phone use is a considerable risk because it averts your eyes, hands, and attention from navigating the roadways. The Distracted Driving campaign runs from March 8th to the 14th, where fines for driving while distracted will be $155. On March 18th, fines will jump to $280 province-wide. Although police will be on special watch for distracted driving during the next week, Stanley reminds drivers police are always on the lookout for unsafe motorists.
