Campaigns encouraging girls to put being healthy above being thin appear to be working, as a new study shows reported in The Independent that more than eight out of 10 girls put fitness first. Research for the Active Inspiration campaign found that 82 per cent of school-age girls agree with the phrase being fit and having a body in proportion is more important than being thin. The Food Doctor says this is obviously good news. Here are a few lifestyle tips to build a positive outlook on exercise. As for lifestyle... Encourage the whole family to adopt healthier eating habits and increase exercise, in this way children can learn by example and everyone benefits; Encourage children to be involved in planning and preparing meals. This can help motivate children to try different foods and thereby increase the variety of foods and hence nutrients in their diet; Regular exercise is essential. Look for local clubs for children to join. Walking to school is an easy way of increasing daily activity even if it is only for part of the journey; Make sure that children get to bed at a reasonable time for their age and use black-out blinds or curtains. If children don’t like falling asleep in the dark then use a nightlight but turn it off as soon as they are asleep.
