Can DISD please get its act together? Why did the Board of Trustees just now realize it needed to change Spring Break dates to align with surrounding districts? Did they not know the dates of other districts spring breaks when they had meetings to decide on this years calendar? Were the biggest district. Let the other districts align with us. Do we really want all children out the same week to overcrowd all the local Spring Break activities? How about those folks, like me, who have purchased plane tickets and reserved hotel rooms for a family of five? Is DISD going to pay ALL of my change fees? There is a calendar committee that meets and, although, just like every other DISD committee, which asks teachers and parents to participate, you are basically given a calendar to rubber stamp. Not much input is accepted at these meetings. I know because Ive been on that committee. So, the calendar committee aproves the rubber stamped calendar, money is spent on printing these calendars to distribute to students before the school year ends so families begin making vacation plans, and on JUNE 26the Board of Trustees decides to change the dates. During the summer when no one is paying attention? By the way, the calendar posted on the DISD website still has March 16-20 listed as Spring Break. Someone may want to change that. Way to go DISD and BOT, another blackeye on our district. Our district that people are questioning how it is operated and managed. No wonder citizens are grasping at straws to find new ways to operate this district. Too bad they are focused of how we are delivering instruction and finding cheaper ways to deliver it instead of how we are managed. ...But God help us if we become a Home Rule District. Get your act together DISD and Board of Trustees.
