This summer I was totally humbled and honored to help 15 courageous young women in Port-au-Prince write two childrens books aiming to raise awareness about the exploitative system of restavek and to end child slavery in Haiti. The experience was incredibly powerful, and so are the resulting books. They tell the stories not only of Jenika and Soraya, but of the 300,000 children in Haiti living in restavek, children who are abandoned and abused and made to feel that their lives do not matter. So by reading these books, you are letting these children know that, HEY, their lives--and their stories--ABSOLUTELY matter. To people all over the world. And their voices are being heard.
