Can I post this here - not strictly lost but hoping to find An elderly woman was spotted by my eagle eye attempting to open the padlock on my side gate. She was stooped and a bit tired looking. She had a bundle of leaflets in her hand - some Legion of Mary leftover I thought and turned away knowing the padlock which pops open at the slightest touch would be beyond her..... keep those religiosoes out .... but the determined lady appeared at the front gate this time with my daughter who kindly walked her to her gardening mother who was not a little ungracious about my daughters helpfulness. Fortunately I did not voice my sentiments. The lady was calling to houses in my sparsely populated area looking for volunteers to take part in An Taisce Spring Clean week. She lives more than a few miles away but appears to co-ordinate the volunteers between the N11 and the Roundwood Road. When this became clear she was invited in. She chatted away about the Clean Up while revealing that she was 80 years old and had been doing this for years. The upshot is this community spirited octogenarian managed to get me to commit to assembling a road crew to clean up the verge of the road under the N11 to the N11 and back up to the old schoolhouse. It is not a huge area but thanks to the flytippers it has a lot of dumped black bags of household rubbish and empty paper cups and bottles slung from passing cars as well as the usual cooker, fridge or mattress dumped in the ditches. If anyone wants to come and lend a hand, I will register our crew and collect the disposable gloves aprons and bags. We could do it over the weekend of April 12th/13th. Anyone who can help could assemble at 11am on Sat 12th at the Old school house and keep going until we finish our area. Children of a sensible disposition and age welcome. Any volunteers?
