Can Maria Conquer Rome? Maria Sharapova and Rafa Nadal took the Madrid titles on clay this past week. Maria has not lost once on clay in her last 11 matches. For someone who used to look totally awkward on clay you have to give credit to the ultra competitive Sharapova to reset her game to master this surface. At Madrid she defeated Li Na and Aga Radwanska and then she came back from one set down to beat Simon Halep for the title. Now she is looking like the main challenger at the French Open to her nemesis the perennial #1 Serena Williams. Ive taken some heat from my dear friends in the Pacific NW because over the years I have followed Sharapova who uses a band vibration dampener. But hey folks she deserves some attention. Besides Serena Maria is the only woman on the tour who has won all four Grand Slam titles in her career. Now that she has won consecutive titles Stuttgart and Madrid on clay can she conquer Rome ?
