#Can We Modify the National Service?? Personally, I think there is a need to re-assess the objectives and performance of the national service scheme in meeting the set objectives. Largely, people continue to exploit the scheme; fail to recruit permanent staff and pay them handsome salaries and continue to rely on cheap labour(service persons) year after year. Clearly, not efficient. Government departments, agencies and ministries have a bulk of service persons who are mostly redundant at work, performing woefully below what they can actually do because there is not much to do at their work places. Clearly, gross under-utilization of resources... Can we begin to channel these energies into entrepreneurship. Can a section of service persons be grouped btn 25 and 30? Get them to start working on a business plan, under the supervision of a business mentor. Then when the plan is ripe after the 9 months or so, we enrol them on a government business support scheme including tax holidays? May be am just thinking wrong. May be my facts are inadequate.But we just need to start a debate.
