Can You Sleep? Years ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic - TopicsExpress

Can You Sleep? Years ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic, because they dreaded the awful storms that raged across the ocean, wrecking havoc on buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals for the season. Finally, a short, wiry, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer, Are you a good farm hand the farmer asked him. Well. I can sleep when the wind blows answered the little man. Although quite vexed by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired the man. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn until dusk every day. And the farmer felt satisfied with the mans work. Then one night, the wind began to howl loudly in from the offshore incoming storm. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hands sleeping quarters. He shook the man awake and yelled GET UP GET UP! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away! The little man turned over and looked at him and said firmly and softly, No sir, I told you I can sleep when the wind blows. Enraged by his response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot and boot him out. Instead, he turned on his heels and ran to secure everything down himself. To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, as well as the horses and other farm animals. The chickens were secured in their closed up coops for the night. The other structures on the farm had their doors bared, and all the shutters on the house were tightly secured. Everything was tied down. The wood pile shed had the locks on the doors and the gates were locked. Nothing could blow away. The farmer then realized and understood what his hired man meant, so he returned to his bed, next to his happy snoring wife, satisfied that his sleep was going to be undisturbed as the wind blew. Moral: When you are prepared, morally, mentally, spiritually, and physically, you have absolutely nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life? As believers in our father, we secure ourselves against the storms of life by grounding ourselves in God. We dont need to understand the circumstances; we just need to hold his hand to have peace in the midst of the storms. Many of lifes circumstances are created by three basic instinctual choices (w/o thinking of God or his purpose for us); the disciplines you choose to keep; the people you choose to be with; and the laws you choose to obey willingly. Sleep well my friends and loved ones. Author unknown.
