Can anyone help Christina? I am a first time mom and my little - TopicsExpress

Can anyone help Christina? I am a first time mom and my little baby is one week old today. I have breastfed the whole time except two pumped bottles that dad has given her. She seems to have problems staying latched so Ive used a breast shield and she does fantastic. One of the lactation consultants at the hospital said she may be having trouble latching because her tongue is very short and barely reaches the front of her mouth. My questions are....do you think the breast shield will always be needed and am I doing harm by using the breast shield? I read somewhere that the shield can interfere with stimulation and as a result you may not produce enough breast milk. That doesnt seem to be a problem so far. I actually pump twice a day to relieve some pressure, fullness, and to have some milk aside incase someone visits during feeding time and Im uncomfortable taking out my boob. I hope you have sore reassuring words for me because I thought I was doing well for my baby by doing whatever it takes to feed her my milk.
