Can anyone shed light on these - they were recovered from a rock shelter in the remote Western Desert of Central Australia. The watch provides a sense of scale in one photo - the visible part of the watch is 15 cm long. I was approached by a historian to shed light on these though dont know much at all about heel plates. I had thought that these may be small horse shoes possibly for a donkey….. If they are in fact heel plates for boots - can anyone suggest what era they may have been from….Either way it is likely they were discarded by an early exploration or prospecting party - identifying what they are may help in determining who left them there and why……
