Can anyone tell me one grocery store in the southern sector of Dallas with a salad bar? Why is it that the Kroger, Albertsons and Tom Thumb stores in North Dallas have awesome salad bars featuring a variety of fresh greens and an amazing assortment of additions? There are tomatoes, mushrooms, bean sprouts, noodles, boiled eggs, bacon bits, raisins, sunflower seeds, cranberries, etc., with various dressings and a variety of free crackers to go along with them. I havent seen so much as a leaf of romaine lettuce in Oak Cliff, Lancaster, Duncanville, Desoto or Cedar Hill! You can buy fried chicken or tacos every 50 feet, but a fresh salad? Forget about it! So, Im calling on Dallas City Council members Scott Griggs, Councilman Tennell Atkins, Dwaine Caraway and Vonciel Jones Hill to light a fire under the grocery chains on behalf of your constituents. This is how you create an urban desert. Create an area well-populated with citizens but drastically underserved with desirable amenities. Why isnt there a Central Market or Whole Foods? Sprouts is a poor relative to those organically-oriented megastores. But in the absence of those, one would think that there would at least be a supermarket where you can purchase your groceries and the fixings for a fresh salad for dinner. I hope the council members and Mayor Mike Rawlings are willing to come aboard, because Im about to start this fight.
