Can someone please explain what the phrase pulling the race card means? What does it mean to pull the race card in a debate, especially one that centers around race or racism? The phrase itself seems to imply that some manner of subterfuge is afoot, as if the user is intentionally trying to complicate the situation. How can someone be pulling the race card simply by pointing out that race is almost always a factor in an inherently racist society? How can an inescapable fact of life be, in any way, an excuse for someone who is constantly affected by said fact?
