Can we come up with a single good reason to waiver laws designed - TopicsExpress

Can we come up with a single good reason to waiver laws designed to prevent unnecessary suffering and cruelty to animals, in order to permit slaughter by grisly religious ritual? Thats what happens when Halal and Kosher slaughter is permitted. This is not the vegetarian debate, its about the unnecessary suffering involved in slaughtering animals in a religiously inspired ritual. The UKs top vet and RSPCA are vigorously opposed to any slaughter where the animal has not been rendered senseless first. The only senseless is with the religious demanding meat barbarically slaughtered. Halal slaughter involves hanging the animal upside down by its feet. The neck is then sliced using a very sharp blade, but being careful to not sever the spinal chord. The animal is then left writhing and screeching the most horrendous screech as it slowly bleeds to death. Of course a few prayers are mumbled over the whole barbaric event to make it acceptable to Allah and ultimately Muslims who demand Halal meat. Is it any wonder the RSPCA and other animal welfare groups are so opposed to slaughter without first stunning the animal?
