Can we get a Life Hack thread going for AA related things? Ill update this list as people post things, see the comments for who offered what advice~! In a week or two, Ill condense everything into a video or something for everyones use and reference. . . . . The List: . . . AT THE TABLE: . Tape is your best friend in the whole wide world and never leave home without it @_@ - Additionally, packing tape works really well as a lint roller for getting lint and dust off clothing, fabric merch, plushies, or table cloths. . On that note, buy these things from the dollar store, stuff them in a pencil box, and dont open the box unless youre at an event to ensure you have them as spares for when you forget important things! The list: 1 pair scissors, 1 fine liner sharpie, 1 fat sharpie, 1 pencil, 1 ballpoint pen, post it notes or note pad, 2 things of tape, 3 tampons (of youre a lady), bandaids, pain killers, 1 mini sewing kit, 1 pack gum (no customer likes breakfast breath!), 1 pencil box. Stuff everything in the box nad pack it first when you begin getting ready for an event. That way, if you forget anything, you have a spare, or if someone from another table wants to borrow something, you can give them your dollar store version and not have to worry if they forget to return it. . Zip ties instead of the round things that come with the build your own crate things. Makes tear down easier . Concerning tape: keep various kinds with you. For example, if you find yourself against a wall and want to hang posters, photos, etc., then painters tape is great for this and most hotels will approve its use on their walls. . MERCH: . You can use silica packets in your pin back button storage to prevent them from rusting between events. . Use large muffin tins to organize buttons. - You can spray paint and decorate these as well to match your table and be less bakeware. . Working with vinyl? Check this: leiradcardmakingcorner.blogspot/2011/03/inexpensive-way-of-tranferring-vinyl.html?m=1 . MONEY: . Get a square reader to allow you to take credit cards with a smart phone or tablet! Getting one is free, visit Squareup, or seek a similar alternative. There are plenty of options, but I love my square reader. . Abuse the Dollar Store. There are tons of useful items at your local dollar store that work really well for events. Go with an eye for using things for reasons other than their intended purpose, Ive replaced expensive craft items with $1 store equivalents. . HOTEL RELATED: . Bringing a crock pot to a hotel can guarantee you a hot meal after a long convention day. . You can abuse the coffee maker to make cup-o-noodles, ramen, etc. . Bring a plastic bowl, cup, and fork/spoon with you, they come in handy. . Invest in a AAA membership, if you go to a few conventions each year, you may save more on hotel rates than you paid for the membership. . Depending on the con call the hotel to book the closest hotel to the AA early. You can always cancel if you dont get in but some times the hotel fills up before you can even apply to the AA. . If you do a lot of conventions, apply for various hotel points/reward cards. You earn points which can earn you discounts or even free nights. (( Nicole Piazza comments: I work for an IHG Hotel, if anybody wants to sign up for IHG Rewards, let me know. Its Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Candlewood, Staybridge, Indigo & Intercontinental hotels. You get great points for your stays! )) . Forget something? Water? Razors? Ask the front desk at your hotel, they can often supply necessities free of charge. You can also use a binder clip to keep the curtains from gaping when youre trying to sleep. . Did your clothes wrinkle during your trip? You can hang them on the towel bars in the bathroom and take a hot shower, the steam treatment is much easier than ironing all of them. . But speaking of irons- Use your hotel iron to iron your table cloth for a more professional, wrinkle free table. As mentioned above, use some packing tape around your hand as a make shift lint roller. . . . . .OTHER HELPFUL LINKS: . These are just links where theres a lot of good info that was too long to really be considered a hack. . animeboston/artists/artists_alley_beginner_guide/
