Can we now admit that the tunnel, and BERTHA, was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea? Now the 12-story pit that theyve been digging for the past year has caused an inordinate amount of settling in 30 of Pioneer Squares buildings. Oh, and theyre (likely) going to have to excavate Bertha in order to repair her because shes been sitting in the same spot for over a year and the oil on the bearings is no good, etc. And then theyre going to put her back and think shell continue on her merry way without another issue on this scale EVEN THOUGH she only made it 10% of the way before this happened. This makes Bostons Big Dig look well-run and affordable. Good thing taxpayers wont be on the hook for this, right? Right. If you need me, Ill be in Greenwood having a good cry with ex-Mayor Mike McGinn.
