Can we separate art from the artist? Gary Glitter and Rolf Harris - TopicsExpress

Can we separate art from the artist? Gary Glitter and Rolf Harris have been found guilty of terrible crimes (Interestingly, in the UK at least Glitter has the lesser record!). But Rock and Roll Part 1 is a smegging amazing example of Glam Rock and Tie me kangaroo Down is a fun song performed well. So, how do we deal with this? do we reject wholesale the works of Glitter, Harris, Polanski etc or do we separate and realise these are group efforts and actually good examples of art? I admit to being somewhat confused as to how to proceed. Gary Glitter was a king of 70s Glam Rock and in his prime was damn good. I find myself at an odd cross roads. Dislike the artist but like the art?
