Can we trust God? Trust is a very critical element when it comes to surrendering, we will not surrender ourselves to God if we do not trust him, but unless we get know our “Father” better we won’t trust him It is the fear that keeps us from surrendering but Love casts out all fear because we worship God who is abounding in LOVE – John 3:16, Romans 8:38 ( Ysehua’s outstretched arm on the cross, saying how much he loved us ) Pride is another obstacle to total surrender, most of the time we are living in denial and want to have complete control of everything which can cause so much stress in our lives We are not God and never will be, when we try to be God we will most like end up like Satan who wanted to be God When we are faced with our own limitations we react negatively, we want to be smarter, stronger, more beautiful and richer We want to have it all and we become upset when it does not happen, we respond with envy, jealousy and self pity when we notice others characteristics that we don’t Pride is another obstacle to total surrender, most of the time we are living in denial and want to have complete control of everything which can cause so much stress in our lives We are not God and never will be, when we try to be God we will most like end up like Satan who wanted to be God When we are faced with our own limitations we react negatively, we want to be smarter, stronger, more beautiful and richer We want to have it all and we become upset when it does not happen, we respond with envy, jealousy and self pity when we notice others characteristics that we don’t We also know that we are surrendered when we don’t react to criticism and rush to defend our self. Surrendered hearts show up best in relationships where you don’t demand your rights, you aren’t self serving etc. Jesus demonstrated the best example of self surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane where he surrendered himself to God’s plan – “ Please take this cup of suffering away from me, yet I want your will not mine” Genuine surrender usually relates to individuals having to go through problems, pain, or difficult circumstances to enable God’s purpose and glory to be fulfilled in life, which is reflection of spiritual maturity We are constantly battling against our self centred nat When we surrender ourselves to God we experience Peace, Freedom from Bondages and Gods power in our lives, stubbornness, rebelliousness and overwhelming problems can be overcome in our lives Victory comes through surrendering, it doesn’t weaken you rather it strengthens you We are measured by our ability to submit to others because God uses those who totally submit themselves to God In this world everyone usually surrenders to something or someone, if not to God, to the views or expectations of others, to money, to resentment, to fear, to our own pride or lusts We were created to worship God, failing this our focus shifts to other things that we give our life to We are free to choose who or what we surrender ourselves to, but we are not free from the consequences of that choice The bottom line is if we don’t surrender to Christ we surrender to chaos, surrender is not the best way to live it is the ONLY way to live. We should make it our goal to serve and please God, saying yes to him is in our best interest and is not negotiable This is the time to take a look at our lives again and what is holding us back ie self will, stubborn pride, personal ambition etc. We cannot fulfil his purposes as long as we carry these baggages with us If God is going to do his deepest work in each of us then we have to empty ourselves of our own selfish desires and cares We need to surrender our spirit, soul and body and give our weaknesses, sins, hopes, dreams, fears and failures to him and make it a vessel fit for his use. Mark 8: 34-35 When we decide to live a life that is totally surrendered we have to be prepared for persecution because it often means doing the opposite of what you feel like doing Are we willing to say sign a contract with God and saying that from this day forward I am a slave of Jesus Christ Now is the time to surrender to God’s Grace, Love and Wisdom.
