Can you be trusted? It’s Sunday, usually a time for reflection. In those quiet moments, we often learn more about who we are, what we truly believe and who we can trust. My sister and I share many conversations. One particular conversation led us to contemplate what we would do if we ever found ourselves in a position where our backs were against the wall, where our fate and livelihood was completely and mercifully in the hands of others. For anyone who’s been there, it is not a fun spot to be. You tell yourself that your faith is strong enough to get you through any mountain, any barrier and any obstacle that comes before you. But, you find yourself doubtful, afraid and uncertain about your life and your future. I go back to a time when I walked out of a grocery store. Two people with a baby approached me, explaining to me that the hotel voucher that allowed them to stay at a nearby hotel had expired and unless they were able to come up with enough money to cover another night or two, they would have no place to sleep that night or for the next few nights. Needless to say, while I was moved by their story, I did nothing. I walked away like many others who heard their story. Perhaps, someone stepped, up, but I did not. That story haunts me today because it made me wonder how many prayers are being left unanswered because God presented us with a situation where there was a need to be met, thinking he could trust us to fulfill that need and we walked away doing nothing. Somehow, we tell ourselves that God will provide, and he does, but it’s through us and our efforts that those prayers are met. I marvel at the actions of friends in my life who have such caring and generous hearts. One such friend tells a story of standing in the grocery line during the thanksgiving and Christmas season where, he out of the blue decided to pay for the food bill of those standing in line with him. I asked him, how much did he spend. He just answered, you don’t want to know. The point is that we are the vehicle on this earth that God uses to fulfill his plan in the lives of others. For me, the message has been received. There will be many more chances for me to step up to get it right. Can God trust you to step up and answer a prayer?
