Can you believe it? 9-1-14, Labor Day! September is an important month, it represents Harvest time. September gives us a few extra hours of light to harvest, buckle down, and bring back the disciplines we lost in the summer. If you know me, you know I always try and see a spiritual significance to everything meaningful so I can apply them to my life. If this is Harvest season in the natural, perhaps it’s harvest season in the spiritual. If Harvest is the central theme of this month, I ask you and me … “Where should I focus my work or attention in this last quarter”? Jesus talks about the most important Harvest of all – Souls! Matthew 9:36-38 – “When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The Harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest, ask him to send more workers into his field”. There are plenty of reasons to be frustrated, stop caring, collapse, or maybe even give up. Our world is a mess. wars, earthquakes, violence, massive deception headed up by some popular Shepherds standing in the pulpit (“worship is for us, not for Him”), financial woes, relationship despair. Sure, all is true but “greater is He that is in us than He that’s in the world” – 1 John 4:4. We live in a critical time, the greatest days from the beginning of time. I challenge us to put on our works boots, work clothes, and work attitude doused with a heart full of compassion for the peoples of the world. What does that look like for us this month?
