Can you explain why the Yoruba should remain part of Nigeria? I - TopicsExpress

Can you explain why the Yoruba should remain part of Nigeria? I havent been able to find any concrete examples in your comments other than Nigeria is the giant of Africa with enormous population - yet there are plenty of countries of similar (and smaller) population and GDP which are successful. England as a small Island with a very small population colonized more than half of the world population. I am half Yoruba and half English and indeed quite insulted by your assertion that Yoruba cannot go it alone. Even as a region, Yoruba produced the first and the best out of Africa. I understand the feeling Nigerian argument - and indeed, before 1966 I would have felt the same way for that reason (as it was, a three nations with each developing at its own pace without any interference from the centre) - but not anymore since regional autonomy was suspended. We are better separated than remain under this unitary presidential system. My father is Yoruba and my mum is an English. I have always felt Yoruba living in England - but my sense of Nigerianess has diminished over the years - to the extent of being ashamed of some of the things that the Nigerian state has associated us, the Yoruba people with. So, why are Yoruba people better off in Nigeria in simple terms? -John Odeyemi, Leeds, England.
