Can you please share Shaktis story? Although she needs cataracts surgery she needs a furever home more. She is in Onterio, Canada. Please see the gofundme for before and after pix of her as a testament to the legendary Pit personality. When you read the story you will also see the Pit personality in her, please help to not only get her eye sight back more importantly get a family that will forever love and adore her for what she is: a Pit. SHAKTI the “Dumpster Dog” Pronounced – Shock tea Meaning: personification, of divine feminine creative power, dependence on no one Shakti was found in a dumpster in Orlando in June of 2013. The person who found her took her to Orange County Animal Services because she was so frail and sickly she could hardly walk, and he knew he did not have the means to help her. By chance, I saw her picture on Facebook, which has become rescues main tool in saving animals these days. All I could see was that she had been “dumped” into a dumpster and left to die, I did not want this girl to die without knowing what love was. It was obvious that her chances of recovery were slim, but I also know that animals recover from many horrific things and that I wanted to give her that chance, even if it was for a short time. So I called my friend Ivonne and asked her if I could quarantine her at her home, and of course she said yes. After 2 weeks of homemade food, deworming and LOTS of TLC, Shakti was not getting better, in fact, she seemed almost worse. After deciding to get her to Dr. Kendra at Shaffer Animal Hospital, she crashed before we could get her there and we ended up in Emergency Vet in Casselberry. Shakti’s blood work was all over the place and she was dehydrated and instantly got hooked up to fluids and kept monitored. The staff at VEC kept her stable until we got her to Shaffer Animal Hospital where we found out that she was Diabetic, blind and her kidneys were not in good shape. Discussion ensued about her status and what her chances were to make it through at all, she was barely alive as it was, and there was no way of knowing how she would do with any treatment. At this point, we had known Shakti for almost three weeks and there was no way we could not take a chance on her, she had touched our hearts too deeply. This girl has quite a personality! I have attached before and after pictures of Shakti, we are all amazed by her turn around and she makes us laugh every day. Everyone who meets her falls instantly in love, she is just that kind of girl. Shakti’s foster mom Gayle has seen her jump from sofa to sofa with 10 point landings, she has also had to trample through the woods in panic while Shakti and her fur brother decide to slip out and hunt lizards (remember she is blind). Taking bones and finding her favorite toys out of the toy box or being one step behind her after opening treat bag. She has so many “gifts” it is hard to keep track! When Dr. Priehs with Animal Eye Associates in Maitland called and offered help with removing her cataracts, we were thrilled at the thought that she may have the chance to see again. Shakti is an amazing dog for many reasons, and she now has a heart filled with love. She is worth every minute, every penny and every tear; she is very special to us. That is why we would love to see her find her forever home, with her own people who will continue showing her how wonderful life should be. With her eye sight intact, her possibilities are endless! We are rescue and our job is to continue to save. Shakti’s job is to continue to show what a fearless spirit is all about. Donations for Shakti and her cataract surgery can be made by going to: gofundme “Shakti Needs Eye Surgery”. Thank you for reading her story, Leslie Yates R.A.I.N.
